[WebERP-developers] CVS or?

Andy Thompson-2
I'm considering the possibility of developing a web based POS interface
to webERP.  It will be heavily customized for my organization so I don't
know how much of it would be useful to give back to the webERP community
although I would endeavor to make it portable.

Anyway, my thoughts are to take a snapshot of webERP and develop from
there.  What would be the best way to keep my base system current with
other webERP updates and fixes?

thanks

-andy

I would use the most recent cvs.  As time goes on I would download the
latest cvs and use a comparer such as KDiff, Beyond Compare or Visual Edit
to find the changes between your base copy and the newest cvs and work them
into yours manually.  Sometimes a change may collide with changes you've
made to your base and you will be able to spot that and figure it out
accordingly.  It will be little effort if you do that process frequently
because there will only be a few changes each time.  In comparing I have
found it wisest to make sure your utility is set to do a binary compare
instead of by date.  Compare all webERP folders and files.  Some such as the
English language files and the contributions file will change each time.
However those don't collide with the work you are doing.  Theoretically all
fixes are worked into a latest cvs and therefore the process I suggest will
cover them as well as any new development keeping you on the leading edge.
